Chicagoland Showdown Officially Cancelled for 2016

April 20, 2016 — Despite best efforts by event promoters, the Sunday May 29 Chicagoland Showdown featuring the ARCA Midwest Tour, ARCA/CRA Super Series, Mid-American Stock Car Series and Midwest Compact Touring Series at Illiana Motor Speedway has officially been cancelled. It was announced last month that the Schereville, IN speedway would not open for the 2016 season unless a new buyer was found. Since that time, event promoters have exhausted every avenue to return racing to the historic venue.

“Disappointed does not even begin to describe how I am feeling.” GA Promotions, LLC President Gregg McKarns stated. “We put a lot of effort into last year’s event and our new format of triple 50 lap features had fans and drivers excited about this year’s race. I will go to sleep knowing that our team tried to make things work, unfortunately it was not in the cards.”. McKarns went on to state that there were no current plans to reschedule this event at an alternate venue either on the original date or at a later time.

The ARCA Midwest Tour will begin their 2016 campaign at Madison International Speedway on Sunday afternoon May 1 with the Joe Shear Classic presented by SCAG Power Equipment. A 100 lap contest awaits the ‘Stars and Cars’ with defending race winner Johnny Sauter and Two-Time defending Tour Champion Ty Majeski amongst early entries.
