Chicagoland Drivers Look to Protect Their Home Turf and Collect a Bounty

If there is one staple thing with the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment, it is that their rules are designed to allow the local weekly competitors to come and compete with the Touring Stars at their home track when the tour rolls into town.

Not only will the local drivers be looking to protect their turf, but they are also eyeing the $1,000 bounty that the Midwest Tour has placed on their three-time defending champion Ty Majeski, who is looking for his sixth straight ARCA Midwest Tour win on Saturday night at the Morris, Illinois track.

The top four drivers in the Grundy County Speedway points are among those already entered in the Wayne Carter Classic 100 this Saturday night.

Billy Knippenberg currently has a 17-point lead over Anthony Danta in the track standings. Knippenberg is also a former track champion and lead his group into the Wayne Carter Classic.

Anthony Danta is currently second in Grundy points and is the defending track champion. He also is a former track champion at the famed Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Indiana.

Eddie Hoffman is a well-known name in Midwest short track racing and is a two-time winner of the Wayne Carter Classic (1998, 2012). He is currently third in the Grundy County Speedway standings this season.

Larry Schuler is one of America’s winningest short track drivers and he isn’t slowing down. He already has a feature win at Grundy this season and currently sits fourth in the point standings. Schuler is the 1981 winner of the Wayne Carter Classic and is looking for his second victory.

Other Chicagoland drivers hope to collect the bonus on Saturday night and ride off to the sunset.

DJ Weltmeyer is hoping to join his dad, Dave Weltmeyer, on the Wayne Carter Classic winners list.

Ricky Baker is currently a Touring Star in the ARCA Midwest Tour and is the defending winner of the Bettenhausen Classic, which ran at Grundy County Speedway last year. He is a two-time champion at Grundy.

Andy Jones, is the son of the famous ARTGO/ASA “Zero Hero” Tom Jones. He was the fast qualifier at last year’s Wayne Carter Classic and finished second in the event.

Johny Nutley is a staple around the Chicagoland area winning races and titles at Grundy and at Illiana. He could be a dark horse this Saturday night.

These drivers will join the Touring Stars, past champions and more this Saturday night at Grundy County Speedway.

They don’t just want to win…they want to protect their turf…and stop a streak for a $1,000 bonus.

Spectator gates will open at 3pm with qualifying at 5pm and racing will get underway at 7pm. The Mid-American Series and Illini Midgets will also be in action on Saturday night.
