ARCA Fest Coming Up June 6th-8th at the Milwaukee Mile
by Kari Shear-Carlson
May 27, 2014 – The ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment was joined by the ARCA/CRA Super Series on Monday, May 26th for the Calypso Brands Lemonade Border Wars II 150 lap event. Border Wars I was held in Toledo, OH in April where Brian Campbell took home the victory.
TY MAJESKI EARNS THE BIGGEST WIN OF HIS CAREER
After a rough start to the weekend with several mechanical issues, Rookie of the Year Contender, Ty Majeski and his team never gave up, and it paid off when he crossed the finish line on Monday. Early in the race, it looked like it was going to be a Border Wars sweep for Michigan’s, Brian Campbell. While Campbell appeared to be on cruise control, Majeski admitted he was taking it easy as well. It never appeared as though Majeski didn’t have anything for Campbell, and he had planned to make his challenge late in the running of the 150 lap event. When Campbell had a tire go down, Majeski was able to take the top spot without a challenge. He easily cruised to his first ever ARCA Midwest Tour victory.
Second place driver Eddie Hoffmann, who has run thousands of laps at the track, was more than impressed with Majeski’s first race at the 1/2 mile.
“He did a really good job. He didn’t make any mistakes, knew where to go in lapped traffic and he definitely beat us. I was expecting him to make some mistakes his first ever time here, but he didn’t,” said Hoffmann.
Majeski was joined in the Hedman Husler Hedders Husler Zone by local driver, Eddie Hoffman, and Touring Star, Jonathan Eilen.
CHRIS WEINKAUF MAKES IT TO THE TOP OF THE CHART
After qualifying second in the past two events, Touring Star, Chris Weinkauf of Merrill, WI finally made it to the top taking home the VDL Fuel Systems fast qualifier award with a 19.263. He was followed by ARCA/CRA Super Series driver, Travis Braden who turned a 19.334, and Touring Star, Cardell Potter with a 19.351.
MIDWEST TOUR AND ARCA/CRA DRIVERS EVENED OUT THE FIELD
The two series combined made for a competitive event on Monday. There was no dominance in either series, proving that the talent in the Midwest is widespread. Five Touring Stars finished in the top ten; Majeski (1st), Jonathan Eilen (3rd), Nathan Haseleu (4th), Paul Shafer, Jr (7th), and Andrew Morrissey (8th). Cardell Potter was the next highest finishing Touring Star in 12th, followed by Jason Weinkauf in 15th. After hard luck for each of them, Chris Weinkauf finished in 19th and James Swan in 24th.
HASELEU CONTINUES TO HOLD ON TO HIS POINT LEAD
Nathan maintains his point lead after a fourth place finish on Monday. Rookie of the Year contender and winner, Ty Majeski is in a close second only 39 points behind Haseleu. Jonathan Eilen is third, 46 points out of the lead. Chris Weinkauf and Andrew Morrissey round out the top five. The gap between first and fifth is only 58 points, so it is still anybody’s game.
Ty Majeski leads the rookie points battle, followed by Casey Johnson and Paul Shafer.
