ASA Midwest Tour Returns to Norway Speedway This Saturday

By: Kevin Ramsell
Norway, MI – The fans will be filling up the famous covered grandstands this Saturday night as the ASA Midwest Tour returns to Norway Speedway in Norway, Michigan this Saturday night.

Located on the Dickinson County Fairgrounds, the track is ready to welcome the stars & cars of the ASAMT to compete with their weekly competitors.

The quarter-mile oval hosted the Midwest Tour from 2007 to 2010, then 2012 to 2015.

In the first four years, only one name visited victory lane: Escanaba’s very own Jamie Iverson.

Iverson would rule the track each year, holding off challenges from Donny Reuvers and Dave Feiler in 2007.

In 2008, Iverson and Dan Fredrickson put on one of the greatest battles in ASAMT history as the two swapped the lead back and forth throughout the 100-lap event. Iverson would get the lead in the final ten laps to get the victory, while Fredrickson’s second-place finish basically cemented his first ASAMT championship in a season where he was battling Reuvers for the title. Reuvers fell out early from the event and finished 22nd.

Iverson would go on to win again in 2009 and 2010 when the event was held over Labor Day Weekend and part of the annual Dickinson County Fair.

After a one-year hiatus, the Tour returned in 2012, where former champion Nathan Haseleu started his string of three victories.

The last time was on August 15, 2015, when five-time Tour Champion Ty Majeski took the victory over Skylar Holzhausen and Natalie Decker.

Fast forward to 2025, and the drivers and teams in the ASA Midwest Tour are eager to be the fourth name to be added to that elite list of Norway Speedway winners.

The fans who watch the weekly action have already had a small taste of the stars & cars of the ASAMT as some drivers visited the track earlier this season and came away with victories.

Justin Mondeik had Norway Speedway as his first track on his Memorial Day Weekend four events in four-day personal challenge. The 2022 Norway Speedway track champion took home the victory.

Levon Van Der Geest made his first super late model appearance on May 30th and swept the night.

2013 track champion Dalton Zehr returned on June 6th and held off his teammate John Beale for the win.

We could also see one of the local heroes bring home the checkered flag on Friday night. Drivers like former track champions Joey Pontibrand and Scott Stanchina, along with Kris Kelly and Joey Stankowicz.

Could Salute the Troops 100 winner Jevin Gurlaski take another win, or will his little brother Kooper upstage him? Could former NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Johnny Sauter, driving for Gene Coleman in his famous 119 car, hold off his son Penn for the victory? Or will we see a first-time ASAMT winner on Saturday night?

There is only one way to find out: get there early on Saturday and find the best seat under the covered grandstands.
