May 19, 2014 – Tim Sauter recorded his first ever ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment win at State Park Speedway in Wausau, WI last Saturday night in the State Park Speedway 125.
SAUTER’S HARD WORK PAID OFF
Tim Sauter was fourth in the final practice session and picked up fast time, so it was evident that he had a fast car. Once the feature started, he showed what he really had, taking his car to the front all they way from the 12th starting spot.
Midwest Touring Star, Chris Weinkauf had a strong run all night, leading until Chris Wimmer and Sauter got underneath and took over first and second. Weinkauf then had to try to hold off fellow Touring Stars, James Swan, Ty Majeski, Andrew Morrissey, and Boris Jurkovic, as well as Skylar Holzhausen. In the end, Majeski took the final podium position.
“These guys work really hard at this. We have to work twice as hard just to keep up,” said Sauter from the Hedman Husler Hedders Husler Zone.
At one point it looked like Chris Wimmer was going to be the one to beat, but once Sauter got by him, Wimmer knew he would have to settle for second.
“I was trying to run with him and just burned myself up. I think he was just playing with me the whole race. He’s smart,” said Wimmer.
FAST TIME WAS JUST THE BEGINNING FOR SAUTER
Tim Sauter also took home the VDL Fuel Systems fast qualifier award with a 13.703. He was followed by local hero, Mark Mackesy with a 13.714 and Rookie of the Year contender, Ty Majeski with a 13.760.
POINTS BATTLE OFF TO A GOOD START
Nathan Haseleu currently leads the overall point standings at 448. Ty Majeski is in second with 409. Jonathan Eilen, Chris Weinkauf and Andrew Morrissey round out the top five.
ROOKIES MAKING A STATEMENT EARLY ON
“We’ve had a lot of bad luck this year. If feels good to get this monkey off our backs,” said Majeski after his third place finish. Majeski also claimed third in qualifying earlier in the day.
With his third place finish, Majeski continues to lead the Rookie points battle. Casey Johnson is second with 379 points with Paul Shafer only 5 points behind Johnson at 374. Nick Barstad is fourth with 362.
The next event for the ARCA Midwest Tour is Sunday & Monday, May 25th & 26th at Illiana Motor Speedway when the ARCA/CRA Super Series join them for the Calypso Lemonade Border Wars II.
