ARCA Midwest Tour Stars and Cars Take On Local Heroes At State Park Speedway This Saturday Night

The Present Meets the Past At The Historic 1/4-Mile Oval

May 14, 2014 – When the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment makes its annual stop at State Park Speedway in Wausau, WI, it isn’t just another race on the busy schedule. State Park Speedway is the type of track, from the moment you walk in, that you actually feel the aura of every driver who ever took a lap. It is almost as if you can see the past with the present as the cars race side-by-side, lap after lap around the 1/4-mile oval.

This Saturday, May 17th, the ARCAMT will take its turn at adding another driver to the extensive winner’s list at SPS. The Tour has always been proud to bring its stars and cars to a place where laps have been taken by some of the most legendary drivers in racing history.

Notably known for the Larry Detjen’s Memorial event held every year, other legendary drivers such as Dave Marcis, Mark Martin, Bryan Reffner, and the late Dick Trickle also competed at State Park Speedway.

Some of the most nail-biting races on the Tour have taken place at SPS and this Saturday night is sure to be yet another one. Hometown heroes like Chris Wimmer, and Mark Mackesy will go up against the likes of Touring Stars, Jason and Chris Weinkauf, Nathan Haseleu, Jonathan Eilen, and Rookie contender, Ty Majeski, to name a few, each trying to etch their name on the winner’s list.

“There is something about State Park Speedway that has produced some of the best races we have ever held in the series with the locals being so competitive. We have gone green to checkered, we have had a few cautions, but nothing beats the 2 wide nonstop passing that is going on throughout the entire race,” said series VP, Steve Einhaus.

“SPS is one of the tracks on our schedule where you are afraid to leave your seat. Often times I don’t get to see the whole race, but at this track I take the time to watch every lap,” added Einhaus.

This will be the fourth annual event for the ARCA Midwest Tour. There have only been two winners in the last three events. Local driver, Mark Mackesy won the inaugural race in 2011, and Lakeville, Minnesota’s, Dan Fredrickson won in both 2012 and 2013.

Make your plans to head out to State Park Speedway in Wausau, WI for a night of side-by-side nonstop action this Saturday, May 17th. Fan gates open at 2:00pm. Qualifying is at 4:00pm. An autograph session will take place behind the grandstands at 5:00pm and racing kicks off at 6:00pm.
