by Kari Shear-Carlson / March 7, 2016 – The ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment will return to Central Wisconsin for a mid-summer showdown at Marshfield Motor Speedway on Saturday night, Aug 13, 2016. The Stars and Cars will contest a one hundred lap feature event on the half mile, semi-banked paved oval.
This will be the first time the Tour has been back to the track since 2014. The ARCA Midwest Tour event at Marshfield Motor Speedway historically brings veterans, up-and-coming stars, and family competition together. The race has not only proven to be one of the most exciting on the circuit, but it has also been one where winners are often local heroes, making it one of the most meaningful victories in their careers.
In 2010, then local driver and former Midwest Touring Star, Chris Wimmer, won the event. It wasn’t an easy victory, however. Multi-time winner at Marshfield Motor Speedway, and Midwest Touring Star, Chris Weinkauf, challenged Wimmer until the end, taking a final look to the inside with five laps to go, but he didn’t have quite enough to get the job done.
In 2011, two-time Marshfield Motor Speedway Champion, Jason Weinkauf, took the lead on lap 14 and never looked back. An emotional Weinkauf won his first Midwest Tour event in front of his hometown crowd.
Former Midwest Tour champion, Jonathan Eilen, has been the only non-local driver to win the event so far. He won in 2012 after a hard-fought battle between the top three. The Minnesota native inherited the lead from Skylar Holzhausen with only 17 laps remaining and took home the win.
Holzhausen was the winning name in 2013 and 2014, with both Skylar and his father, Steve, capturing victories. Skylar had come close to winning in 2012 before the mechanical problems took him out with 17 to go, but 2013 was his redemption year. The Midwest Touring Star battled with former Midwest Tour champion, Dan Fredrickson, for over half the race, but led the final 43 for the win. Steve Holzhausen’s victory in 2014 wasn’t an easy feat either. He had to hold off fellow veteran, Rich Bickle, for the win. Skylar was watching all the action from the third spot, and while Skylar wasn’t the Holzhausen in victory lane that day, he was just as happy. “He makes me proud and I’m just as happy to see him win as I am happy to win.”
Will another local name in victory lane? Or will an outsider be able to hold them off? The only way to find out is to make your plans now to attend this mid-summer showdown at Marshfield Motor Speedway on August 13th. Racing action begins at 7:00pm. Support divisions will include Mid-American Stock Car Series as well as the X-Treme 4’s.
The ARCA Midwest Tour kicks off its 2016 Championship point season May 1st at Madison International Speedway for the Annual Joe Shear Classic. Many of the Touring Stars will see action on Saturday April 16 at Toledo Speedway for a non-points event held in conjunction with the ARCA CRA Super Series presented by Jeg’s.
