Another Top Ten for Wimmer

Wausau, WI – Chris Wimmer brought home his sevenths top-ten finish of the season with a tenth place run at Elko Speedway last Saturday and also picked up his fourth fast time award of the year. “Any time you can finish in the top ten in the ASA Midwest Tour is a pretty good day,” says Wimmer, “We had been running in the top-five the last few weeks, so we’re hoping to get back on track.”

Wimmer set fast time for the fourth time this season, laying down a blistering lap of 14.536. He’s the only driver in ASA Midwest Tour history to set four fast times in one season. “We have really had the Preval Chevy dialed in for qualifying this year,” says Wimmer, “We’ve set two new track records and it’s always exciting when you can go out there and lay down a fast lap.”

Wimmer started the 125-lap feature from the 12th position and fell back to 14th when the caution flag flew to signal a 10minute break at lap 75. “The car got really loose during those first 75 laps,” says Wimmer, “A few times I didn’t think I was even going to be able to hold on to it.”

The crew went to work on the Preval Chevy during the 10minute break and when the field went back to green Wimmer’s car was much better. In the final 50 laps he picked off four cars to finish the day in tenth. “You always hope to be up front competing for a win, but I’ll take a top ten,” says Wimmer.

With another top-ten finish and another fast time, Wimmer moved from third to second in points and inched a little closer to point leader Jonathan Eilen. With three races left Wimmer sits 32 points back from that top spot. “It’ll be tough to catch Jonathan,” says Wimmer, “But the battle for second, third and fourth is pretty tight between myself, Nathan Haseleu, and Chris Weinkauf. We need to run strong to the end of the year and hopefully we can pick up a win along the way.”
