Officials with the ASA Midwest Tour have announced that Alex Gilhart has been named the new Series Director of the ASA Midwest Tour moving forward.
Gilhart will take over for Gregg Mckarns who had run the series for the past 11 seasons. While Mckarns steps away from the operations of the series he will still be involved as he still plans to be the promoter of his traditional Super Late Model special events.
Gilhart is no stranger to the ASA Midwest Tour or to short track racing across the region. Having spent the past 11 seasons working within the series in a variety of officiating and operational roles, he brings both experience and a deep understanding of the sport’s grassroots foundation. Over the past two years, Gilhart has also served as General Manager of Angell Park Speedway, helping guide the historic Wisconsin facility through two successful seasons. In total, he officiates nearly 70 events per year, spanning multiple series and tracks on both asphalt and dirt.
“It’s been a pleasure working with Alex over the past 11 seasons and watching him grow into one of the most respected officials in short track racing,” said Gregg McKarns.
“He’s earned this opportunity through hard work, professionalism, and his passion for the sport. I’m proud of his accomplishments thus far and am excited to see where he leads the tour in the future.”
Under Gilhart’s direction, the ASA Midwest Tour will continue its tradition of showcasing the region’s top Super Late Model talent while building the next generation of racing stars. With his extensive experience in race operations and promotions, Gilhart is well-positioned to guide the series into a new era of growth and excitement.
“It’s a real honor to take on this role with a series that’s been such a big part of my life,” said Gilhart. “The ASA Midwest Tour represents the heart of short track racing in the Midwest with its great drivers, great fans, and incredible racetracks. I’m excited to continue building on the strong foundation we have and to make 2026 one of our best seasons yet.”
The 2026 ASA Midwest Tour schedule will be released in the coming weeks along with other announcements throughout the off season.
